Five Reasons Missions Matter

“And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”  Mark 16:15

1. Missions matter to God the Father, because it is the method by which he is carrying out his plan for mans redemption.  From Genesis to Revelation, we see the ever-expanding reach of the Mission of God.  He has set his love upon all mankind, in every ethnic group, and in every generation.  He has revealed His compassion toward man who thou fallen still bears His image and likeness.

The LORD appeared to him from afar, saying,
“I have loved you with an everlasting love;
Therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness.  Jeremiah 31:3

2. Missions matter to the Son of God, because it is the means by which He is bringing glory to the Father, and introducing man to a right relationship with God.  The missionary mandate is found in every Gospel, and reminds us that the Church exists to spread the Gospel of Christ to the Nations.

“And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”  Mark 16:15

And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”  Matthew 28:18-19

“Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day, and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.  You are witnesses of these things.  And behold, I am sending forth the promise of My Father upon you; but you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”  Luke 24:46:49

So Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.”  John 20:21

3. Missions matter to the Holy Spirit, because He is the power and strength of the Missionary cause.

“You shall receive power after the Holy Spirit has come upon you, to be my witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, and unto the uttermost parts of the earth.”  Acts 1:8

4. Missions matter the world, because without missions, the world would perish not for lack of a Savior, but for lack of knowledge of the Savior.

“How can they call on him in whom they have not believed, how can they believe in Him of whom they have not heard, and how can they hear without a preacher, and how can they preach unless they are sent.”   Romans 10:14

5. Missions should matter the local church, because they are the method through which God has chosen to partner with the church in accomplishing His plan for the ages.   I pray that you will take time this week to pray for the world-wide missionary enterprise, and that you will take every opportunity to support missions in what ever capacity is within reach.
